The Edo State Police Command has arrested a 31-year-old man, Joshua Osaigbovo, for the alleged murder of his 21-year-old girlfriend, Osato Edogiaweria, who was declared missing in April 2025.

In a statement released on Monday, the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Moses Yamu, confirmed that the case was initially reported by the victim’s mother, Mrs. Ojo, at the Aduwawa Police Division on April 25.

She told police that Osato had left home on April 20 in the company of a friend and never returned.

Following preliminary investigation, the case was transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), where operatives launched an in-depth investigation using intelligence tools.

“Through diligent efforts and technical intelligence, detectives arrested the prime suspect, Joshua Osaigbovo, a resident of Iyanomon community in Ikpoba-Okha Local Government Area, on June 18,” the statement read.

During questioning, Osaigbovo admitted that he had invited Osato to his house on April 27.

He claimed an argument broke out between them, escalating into a physical altercation.

According to him, Osato fell, hit her head on the floor, and died instantly.

He further confessed to placing her body in a wheelbarrow and disposing of it in a nearby bush, where he buried her in a shallow grave, just a few metres from his residence.

On June 20, police operatives, accompanied by the suspect, visited the site in Iyanomon community.

After proper legal procedures were followed, the decomposed remains of Osato Edogiaweria were exhumed.

The police said investigations are still ongoing and that Osaigbovo will be charged to court upon their conclusion.

The Command reiterated its commitment to ensuring justice for victims and urged the public to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities promptly.
