The Ondo State Police Command has arrested a syndicate of two suspected car thieves and recovered a stolen vehicle in the state.
The command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Abayomi Jimoh, confirmed the arrest of the suspects and recovery of the vehicle in a statement on Tuesday.
In the statement, the Commissioner of Police, Adebowale Lawal, said the operation followed a complaint lodged on February 27, 2026, by one Adeyemi Robert, who reported that his Toyota Camry with registration number AH173WWD had been stolen.
Police detectives immediately launched an investigation, employing intelligence gathering and other strategies to track down the stolen car and those responsible.
It was gathered that their efforts paid off when the vehicle was traced to a 40-year-old suspect, Awolo Akingbade, who was found in possession of the car. He was subsequently taken in for questioning.
Further investigation revealed that the vehicle had allegedly been sold to Akingbade by the principal suspect, Adeyemi David, who was later arrested.
The Police say preliminary findings indicate that David stole the vehicle and sold it to the buyer.
Authorities confirmed that the suspects have been charged to court following the conclusion of the investigation.
Commending the officers involved, CP Lawal praised their professionalism and diligence, noting that their efforts led to the successful recovery of the vehicle and the arrest of those involved.
He reiterated the Command’s commitment to safeguarding lives and property across Ondo State, warning criminal elements to desist or face the full weight of the law.
The police also urged residents to remain vigilant and support law enforcement agencies with timely and credible information to combat crime effectively.
