Troops of the 6 Brigade Nigerian Army, in conjunction with Sector 3 Operation Whirl Stroke, have neutralised bandits operating in Taraba and Benue States.
This was disclosed in statement shared on the Nigerian Army's Facebook page on Sunday.
On December 7, 2024, the troops launched a clearance operation in the Akahagu and China villages of Ukum Local Government Area in Benue State.
The operation extended to Ikayor village, where troops engaged bandits linked to the notorious criminal Akiki Utiv, also known as "Full Fire."
Some of the items recovered include a red Toyota Corolla vehicle, a motorcycle, a military camouflage trouser and a Beretta pistol.
The Commander of the 6 Brigade, Brigadier General Kingsley Chidiebere Uwa, commended the troops for their bravery and resilience.
Uwa has assured residents of Taraba and Benue States that the military remains committed to maintaining peace and security in the region.
The statement read, "Troops from the 6 Brigade Nigerian Army, in conjunction with Sector 3 Operation Whirl Stroke, have dealt a significant blow to bandits operating in Taraba and Benue States.
"The operation, codenamed "Operation Golden Peace," aims to restore peace and security in the region.
"The bandits were forced to flee after troops applied overwhelming firepower. A red Toyota Corolla vehicle, a motorcycle, and various items, including a military camouflage trouser and a Beretta pistol, were recovered."
