Gabon citizens on Wednesday have stormed the streets to applaud members of the security forces in the Plein Ciel district Libreville, after a group of Gabonese military officers appeared on television announcing they were “putting an end to the current regime”.
The military also scrapped the official election results that had handed another term to ousted President Ali Bongo.
According to the electoral commission, Bongo won under tow-thirds of the total votes cast, but the opposition has claimed that the was fraudulent.
However, the recent development would erase the 53-year hold on power by the family of Bongo in Gabon.
