Troops of Sector 2, Joint Task Force North West Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have recorded major operational successes in ongoing efforts to curb terrorism, banditry and other criminal activities across Sokoto and Katsina States.

The troops, through a series of coordinated offensive operations, neutralised armed terrorists, disrupted planned attacks, rescued abducted victims, and seized weapons and logistics equipment belonging to terrorists.

Joint Task Force, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, Lt. Aliyu Danja, disclosed this in a statement on Monday.

In Sokoto State, the troops on 21 June 2026 foiled an attempt by armed terrorists to infiltrate Tureta town following credible intelligence.

It was gathered that the troops swiftly responded and engaged the attackers, forcing them to abandon their mission and retreat from the area.

During the pursuit operation, aerial surveillance tracked the fleeing terrorists to Sulubawa Gidan Kare village, where they were observed moving with abducted civilians and rustled livestock.

The operation resulted in the successful rescue of the abductees, recovery of the rustled cattle and seizure of two motorcycles used by the terrorists.

In a related operation in Katsina State, troops carried out an intelligence-led dawn raid on a suspected terrorist hideout in Matazu Local Government Area on 22 June.

The military said that troops caught the terrorists off guard, leading to a fierce firefight in which two terrorists were neutralised, while others escaped with varying degrees of gunshot injuries.

A search of the hideout led to the recovery of a PKT assault rifle, an AK-47 rifle with ammunition, three motorcycles, mobile communication devices, rustled livestock and other items believed to support the terrorists’ criminal activities.

The Joint Task Force North West Operation FANSAN YAMMA said the latest successes demonstrate the troops’ commitment, resilience and determination to dismantle terrorist networks and restore peace and security across the North West region.

The Force assured residents that sustained offensive operations would continue to deny criminal elements freedom of action and ensure safer communities.
