Operatives of the Ogun State Police Command have apprehended a 45-year-old man identified as Taiwo Yemitan, for allegedly carrying a a fresh human head and dismembered body parts of a female victim in the Lafenwa area of Abeokuta.
The suspect was apprehended around 1:40 a.m. on Sunday in his residence located behind Atinsola petrol station, Sanni, Abeokuta.
This was disclosed in a statement by the the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Omolola Odutola, on Sunday.
Odutola, in the statement, confirmed that Yemitan's arrest followed a tip-off from local security outfits, including the Agbekoya and vigilantes.
The statement read, “The suspect admitted to knowing the deceased identified as Darasimi, who he lured to his residence with the intent to kill her.
“He confessed to the murder, naming two other individuals, Kehinde Yemitan and one Kazeem, second name unknown as accomplices in the criminal act.
“Their intention was to sell the victim’s head and other body parts.”
According to Odutola, the dismembered victim's body had been taken to the general hospital, Ijaye, Abeokuta morgue for a postmortem.
She noted that efforts were underway to arrest the accomplices and to locate the victims’ relatives.
She said that the suspect would be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department, Eleweran, Abeokuta for a thorough investigation, Odutola said.
